David Orr is the Paul Sears Distinguished Professor of Environmental Studies and Politics at Oberlin College and a James Marsh Professor at the University of Vermont. He is a well known environmentalist and is active in many areas of environmental studies, including environmental education and environmental design.

He holds a BA from Westminster College (1965), an MA from Michigan State University (1966), and a PhD in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania (1973). He serves as a trustee for several organisations including the Rocky Mountain Institute and the Aldo Leopold Foundation.

Professor Orr is the author of several books including Hope Is an Imperative: The Essential David Orr.
